These stalks are boiled in a water and boric acid solution. This removes sugars from the stalks which is necessary because sugars attract termites. This boiling process also stops the growth of fungus and mold. Any insects in the bamboo will also be removed. Often, copper sulfate is used to kill any micro-organisms. This stuff is incredibly toxic. Then the strips are dried and woven with an extremely low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) plasticizer or glue. The woven strand is crushed in a 2000-ton heat press and now becomes a strand woven board. This strand woven board is then milled in a laser-guided mill that accurately cuts each board.

  • Caramel Strand Woven Bamboo Panel 2440x1220x20mm

    %e9%87%8d%e7%ab%b9%e7%a2%b3%e5%8c%961

Caramel Strand Woven Bamboo plywood, 4x8x3/4”, 3 cross-laminated layers, face and bottom layers are strand woven grain, core is vertical bamboo grain.

Carbonized bamboo is darker amber and heat–treated color, is created when bamboo goes through its heating and pressurizing processes. During this process, the sugar content in the fibers darken from their natural shades to achieve a darker, coffee-colored tone.

Strand woven grain is produced from the excess strands of bamboo that are trimmed from the bamboo fillets during the milling stage. These thin strands of bamboo are intertwined and manufactured to create a woven block which is scratch resistant, extreme density and moisture resistant, then block is then sawn into planks and laminated with vertical bamboo to make 3 or 5 layers of bamboo panels.

Bamboo looks like wood, feels like wood, and cuts like wood. It even smells like wood. But bamboo is not wood, it is a fast-growing and sturdy tree-like grass, which is an environmentally friendly, renewable resource.

Bamboo panels have gained a lot of attention recently, especially among “green” building professionals and architects. Bamboo panels are multi-purpose building and decoration material because they are environmentally green, easy to mill, stable structure, adjustable dimension, consistent top quality, making it ideal for a wide range of uses including countertops, cabinets, desks, shelving, architectural panels, and much more.

    Bamboo Panels Manufacturing Process:

Step 1: Treatment with bamboo strips. After harvesting, bamboo pole is cut into stalks and strips. All strips need be boiled in a water and boric acid solution. This removes sugars from the stalks which is necessary because sugars attract termites. This boiling process also stops the growth of fungus and mold. With few hours boiling, bamboo strips will be sent into dry kiln to get a very low moisture content – less than 10%, too wet strips are not possible for gluing and pressing.

Step 2: Laminated bamboo into boards. After well-processed for strips, bamboo will be glued with a urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesive which emits very low volatile organic compound (VOC). Glued bamboo strips are laminated into layer of board by a 800-ton presser with hot steam. Multiple layers are formed to thick and suitable construction boards with a 1500-ton presser at cold condition, no steam, just static pressure.

Step 3: Sanding and cutting bamboo panels. Surface of bamboo boards are unsmooth after lamination, size of boards are imprecise. It takes twice sanding for both sides of every panel, first sanding is with 200 mesh paper and second is 120 mesh. All bamboo panels need be trimmed to ensure 4 sides are flat and square.

    Bamboo Panels Application:

Bamboo panel is a truly green and environmental material for building the house, making the furniture – door, cabinet, kitchen etc., milling the stairs, creating new, unique and fabulous bamboos with panels distinct advantages – stable structure, superior density, elegant colors, easy processing and adjustable dimensions.

Carbonized Strand Woven Bamboo – Carbonization is the process where the fiber are heated until they darken in color. These planks are then pre-finished with the 8 layer aluminum oxide/ polyurethane coating.

Strand Woven Bamboo is the hardest floor available today as can be seen from the official Janka Test results – Janka Hardness Rating of 3000 PSI, it has a highly distinctive grain with a look resembling that of traditional teak hardwoods. Strand woven bamboo made using a unique manufacturing process that is different from all other bamboo flooring types – by heating long strands of bamboo, and compressing them under extreme pressure, to achieve highest density and most beautiful color.

Exotic Caramel Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring Manufacturing Process:

Step 1: Dried bamboo poles are shredded into fine strips, dissecting and opening the cell structure of the plant.

Step 2: The bamboo strips are immersed in non-toxic, water based glue, which fills and encapsulates the exposed cells.

Step 3: A precisely measured quantity of bamboo strips is fused together under the high pressure of a 2500-ton cold press, producing blocks similar in size and shape to railroad ties. The cold press uses no heat and no toxic or harmful chemicals.

Step 4: The solid block is left to stabilize in a resting position for 30 days before being processed into flooring material.

  • Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring: Why Is It a Wise Choice for Modern Homeowners?

    b34

Strand woven bamboo flooring is undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous and most unique flooring products at this moment. However, it is not necessarily the strongest as sturdiest flooring product. Fully grown bamboo might be quite imposing, but it is indeed a fibrous and organic material. However, modern manufacturers have overcome the inherent weakness of bamboo by interweaving the bamboo strands.

What exactly is strand woven flooring?

Keep in mind that strand woven bamboo flooring, and any other type of bamboo flooring for that matter, is made of grass. It’s not wood. The top manufacturers laminate the highly fibrous material one atop another. However, there are many other manufacturers who go one step ahead to weave the fibres in an adhesive base, which forms a sturdier material. The word ‘woven’ is used to connote the use of glue and to imply the sturdiness of this kind of flooring.

How does weaving ensure longer work life of floors?

Bamboo is by nature a soft and fibrous material and it is indeed quite difficult to turn it into a durable surface. However, Chinese manufacturers master this art of turning the fibrous material into a wear-ready surface. Also, a method of browning and staining bamboo flooring, which is also called carbonizing (in some cases, carmelizing) weakens the bamboo by about 30%. Therefore, weaving is required for making it a solid and sturdy flooring surface.

Should you use strand woven bamboo flooring?

Unlike hardwood materials such as oak and maple, bamboo is not wear-resistant by nature. However, there are leading manufacturers who have invented certain manufacturing methods that are really effective in building and increasing sustainability and durability of bamboo flooring, strand weaving process is one such manufacturing method which is widely considered as the most effective manufacturing process as far as increasing durability of the floors is concerned. Also, choice of core materials, tough aluminium oxide finishes and choice of glue determine the hardness and sustainability of the floors.

What is the cost of strand woven flooring?

In general, this type of floor is at least 50% more expensive than regular bamboo flooring. However, the cost widely varies on which manufacturer you are choosing. There are manufacturers who follow a lean manufacturing model and have direct access to bigger reserves of bamboo and they can offer you European quality flooring at Asian prices.

Where should you but strand woven bamboo flooring?

Remember there are many shady manufacturers who offer poor-quality materials and often operate on a fly-by-night basis. Your challenge is to find a really reputable manufacturer and supplier, with at least a decade long industry presence and with considerable reputation in domestic and overseas markets. Just do not forget that all the leading manufacturers of strand woven bamboo flooring are leading exporters too.

As with any kind of hardwood floor, bamboo floor also need to be taken care of regularly so that the floor looks as beautiful as it was on the day of installation. Don’t let water collect on your strand woven bamboo floor as it can cause warping. Also, do not ignore the spills and clean them up quickly. The bamboo floor under a sink should have a rug which can absorb water.

It is also highly important and recommended to sweep and dry-dust the floor regularly. You should not wax the floor. You can just use a damp mop to clean the strand woven bamboo flooring. Do not pour a solution or water directly on this kind of floor. The multiple layers of which the bamboo flooring is composed can protect the floor from regular wear and tear for a very long period. Also, bamboo floors can be refinished and sanded during their work life. You can also place plastic protectors and soft pelt beneath the legs of your furniture to protect the floor from scratches. Also, if possible, place rugs near high-traffic areas. Do not forget to go through the user manual of your manufacturer or dealer before installation.
